Steve Walker

Steve Walker

Chairman, International Service Committee

Steve was born in Rhodesia in 1949, his parents having emigrated there from Scotland after the war. He was educated in Rhodesia and Malawi. It was in Malawi that he started his life long career in the meat industry. Steve spent two and a half years working in Kendal in the early 70’s and this is where he married Yvonne in 1973. They have two daughters, now thirty nine and thirty three. They returned to Rhodesia in 1974, it was in the middle of the terrorist war, and Steve was immediately called up to do military training. For the next five years he was attached to the Territorial Army, completing numerous call ups until Independence in 1980. Yvonne and Steve divorced in 2001. Steve met Kay and they were married in 2003. They could not see a long term future in Zimbabwe as hyperinflation eroded their savings and pensions and so they immigrated to the UK in 2006. Steve and Kay work as a residential couple; Steve does the gardening and Kay the housekeeping in Bighton, which is just outside Alresford. Between them they have five children and nine grandchildren, living in Zimbabwe, South Africa, United States and UK.
