Hans Wustefeld

Hans was born in The Netherlands in a small village near Gouda. Adventure was always a temptation as a young boy as he escaped his village frequently cycling to faraway places. He left home on his 19th birthday bound for a round trip to Australia working his passage onboard a Dutch emigrant ship. During his 15 years at sea he managed Duty Free retail shops onboard Cunard’s QE2, Holland America Line and P&O. After his Merchant Navy days he was promoted to the head office of Ocean Trading Duty Free and Allders International in Southampton as US Operations Manager. In 1988 he changed direction and became Project Manager of the newly to be built Swan Shopping Centre in Eastleigh. After the Swan Centre he managed new Shopping Centre developments in Crawley, Redhill, Cardiff and Basildon. The last twenty years of his working life were spent working for British Land as General Manager of shopping centres and town centre management. Hans joined Alresford Rotary in November 2018 after membership of Rotary Clubs in Eastleigh, Crawley, Redhill and Basildon Concord. He still is in contact with the many charities he supported during his work around London especially the Normandy Veterans Association, British Legion, Age Concern, Citizen Advice and Gateway Community Radio. Hans has lived since 1975 with his wife Sue in Hampshire and moved to Bishops Sutton in 2001.
