Many thanks for your contributions to the Alresford Rotary Shoebox Project. This year's Shoe-Box collection and distributi0n has ended with a total of 306 boxes being donated. St. Peters School in Winchester contributed 114 boxes, Sunhill Schools 58, Cheriton 31 Churches together in Alresford 63, Rotary Alresford 21, Inner Wheel 12 and Northington WI 7 boxes. Overall numbers were down in our area compared with previous years but at least 306 disadvantaged children will receive a gift this year. A message received from Geoff Philpot Rotary Shoebox Project Leader : Many thanks to you all for your contributions to Districts Shoebox Project. This year's total Collection is 26,491 almost exactly 300 less than last year but still a credible collection. Some clubs showed growth with an incredible 4,485 delivered from Guernsey. Thank you also to the clubs who topped up there shortfalls. By your acceptance of that responsibility, it means that we can still afford to send boxes to Albania, Romania, Montenegro, Moldova and the Philippines. DG Allan Smith visited the depot last Thursday evening, and he was impressed with what only 19,500 shoeboxes in store looked like. As he said, we all know the numbers, but until you see it you don't realise what goes on. I have also a big thank you to send to send to Basingstoke, Basingstoke Deane, Basingstoke Loddon and my own club for their manpower support at the depot this year. It made the whole task of reception so much easier and the atmosphere was much more a true Rotary project in operation.
