With Christmas fast approaching our club is turning its efforts to the collection of shoe boxes. Our club has been involved with this scheme for the past eight to nine years and with the help of the local community and schools we have collected some 4000 shoe boxes. Each box contains educational books, games and small items of clothing. Every November the local churches meet and pack around 100 shoe boxes … the boxes are checked to ensure that they do not contain “illegal substances” such as food, liquids, medicines or sharp items. The individual boxes are then packed into cartons pending onward shipment. This year, our Rotary District 1110 is hoping to deliver over 25000 boxes to disadvantaged children in Albania, Montenegro, Moldova and Romania. For many this will be the only gift that they will receive this Christmas and will make such a difference at this time of year.
