Murray Parish Trust

The Rotary Club of Alresford Supports the Murray Parish Trust At a dinner held at Avington Park on Friday 20th January 2017 to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Rotary Club of Alresford’s Charter, Club President Steve Walker presented a cheque for £1,000 to Sarah Parish and James Murray.  The husband and wife team of well-known actors, who live locally to Alresford, are the founders of the Murray Parish Trust.  With matched funding by the Government as well as the Barker Mill Foundation, this donation will quadruple to £4,000. In presenting the cheque to Sarah Parish and James Murray, Steve Walker said, “On behalf of the members of Alresford Rotary, it gives me great pleasure to hand over this donation and be able to support such a worthwhile charity appeal.” The Murry Parish Trust is committed to raising £4m to fund a paediatric trauma unit at Southampton General Hospital in memory of Ella Jayne, the actors’ daughter who lost her young life due to a congenital heart condition. The money donated to the Murray Parish Trust was provided from some of the proceeds of the Club’s annual sale of Christmas trees.  The Christmas Tree Sale was the first fund-raising project which the Club initiated in 1987 its first full year of being Chartered within Rotary in Britain and Ireland.  The popular sale at the top of Broad Street has continued for the past 30 years, during which time they have raised over £45,000.  Other local fund-raising and community projects include the annual bonfire and fireworks in November, 10k Race in June, Apple Day in October, as well as various activities with the local primary and secondary schools in the town.
